The North Mississippi Angel Fund is located in Starkville, MS, a marquee college town. It is a microventure fund designed to invest in regional talent and technology to enhance the local economy. NMAF is a joint effort of RAIN Source Capital, Angel Capital Group, and Innovate Mississippi. The fund intends to augment the region with “new economy” jobs and to leverage intellectual property developed at the Mississippi State University. Mississippi State University is the state’s land-grant institution and a public flagship university, and the largest employer of Starkville. Starkville is the most populous city of the Golden Triangle region of Mississippi and the home of the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library.
The fund plans to invest $25,000 to $100,000 at the seed stage and may provide larger investments along the way to support growth. Investments are made in exchange for convertible debt and/or ownership equity. Once an investment is made, the members of the fund plan to remain “active investors” to help that business succeed.
The members of the Fund are a dynamic group of individuals with backgrounds from Software as a Service (SaaS) to banking, real estate, economic development, university leadership, etc.
